You will set off from Hoi An towards Marble Mountain, which is a very significant site for Buddhists in Vietnam, your very first stop for the day. At the very top of the mountain rested a pagoda and the ominously named Hell’s Cave sinking deep into the earth underneath. From there you will make your way towards the ruins of My Son. After leaving the main road behind, you will follow tranquil rural laneways and into the center of Vietnam’s countryside, where you can catch an insight into the lives of local people along the way. You will go through farms, villages and ‘middle of nowhere’ places all the while immersing in the fresh air and magnificent views.
Then, you will have time for lunch at a local restaurant before setting off on foot amid the My Son ruins. With the majority of tour buses departing prior to lunch, you will have these impressive 8th-century Cham Towers mostly to yourselves. You will venture around the paths, explore numerous ruins and soak in the attractive atmosphere of this historic site.
After that, mid-afternoon, you will begin your drive back to Hoi An along a different road running parallel to the Thu Bon River. Casting a different hue on the farms, water and roads, the afternoon light is great for photos as a scenic backdrop for the trip. All good things must come to an end however, and you will get to Hoi An just in time for sunset.
