Nestled in the heart of Ninh Binh Province, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex is one of Vietnam’s most spectacular natural and cultural destinations. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014, Trang An captivates visitors with its dramatic karst landscapes, emerald rivers, mysterious caves, and sacred temples. It’s often called the “Halong Bay on land” — but with a unique inland charm that blends natural beauty and spiritual serenity.
Trang An is located about 7 km from Ninh Binh City center and roughly 100 km south of Hanoi. It’s easily reachable by car, train, or bus — taking approximately 2 hours from Hanoi. The area covers more than 12,000 hectares of limestone mountains, rivers, and valleys surrounded by lush greenery.
The best way to experience Trang An is by joining a traditional rowing boat tour led by local villagers. Each boat carries up to four passengers and takes you through a maze of caves, rivers, and ancient temples nestled within the karst landscape. There are multiple routes to choose from, each offering a unique combination of caves and historical sites.
The ideal time to visit Trang An is from January to April (spring), when the weather is cool and the water is crystal clear. During May and June, visitors can enjoy the sight of golden rice fields glowing around the limestone cliffs — a magical landscape that photographers adore.
From Hanoi, you can take a 2-hour drive via the expressway to Ninh Binh. Once there, local taxis or motorbikes can bring you to Trang An. Many day tours and private transfers from Hanoi include round-trip transport and a boat ride in their packages.
With its harmonious blend of nature, culture, and history, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex is not just a place to visit — it’s an experience that captures the soul of Vietnam’s timeless beauty.
