Unlike the bustling tourist areas around Ha Long Bay, Viet Hai Village offers visitors a rare glimpse into authentic rural life. Home to only a few dozen local families, the village is famous for its lush forests, traditional houses, scenic cycling routes, and warm hospitality. Whether you arrive by cruise, bicycle, or electric cart, a visit to Viet Hai Village promises a relaxing journey through one of Northern Vietnam's most beautiful natural landscapes.
Hidden inside Cat Ba National Park, Viet Hai Village is surrounded by limestone mountains, tropical forests, and peaceful farmland. Because there are no major roads connecting the village with Cat Ba Town, visitors usually reach the village by boat before continuing by bicycle or electric car through a scenic forest trail.
Most travelers visit Viet Hai Village as part of an overnight or day cruise in Lan Ha Bay. Cruise boats dock at a nearby pier, where guests continue their journey by bicycle or electric vehicle for approximately 5 km through Cat Ba National Park. Independent travelers can also reach the village by speedboat from Beo Pier on Cat Ba Island.
Viet Hai Village offers a completely different experience from the popular cruise attractions. Visitors can cycle through peaceful rice fields, admire traditional homes, meet friendly locals, enjoy fresh seafood prepared by village families, and even experience the famous natural fish foot massage. The quiet atmosphere and untouched surroundings make it one of the highlights of any Lan Ha Bay itinerary.
For generations, Viet Hai Village remained isolated from the outside world due to its mountainous location. Local residents relied mainly on farming, fishing, and forest products to support their families. Today, while tourism has brought new opportunities, the village has carefully preserved its traditional lifestyle and continues to promote sustainable eco-tourism within the UNESCO-recognized Cat Ba Archipelago.
